Only once a year on the morning of the Bristol Bike Ride - Portway without motorised traffic noise is a joy and a delight (but watch out for other cyclists). Also, Old Sneed Park would be nice and quiet then too.

I love it here. Spent many a happy morning raising the dead with my trumpet and doing pull ups on an old Holm Oak tree...so not always quiet, but peaceful...

Such a lovely area, next to Blaise Castle estate, lots of people walking and cycling up and down the hill. Would be a great, restorative place to be, were it not for the traffic noise - the vast majority of cars and lorries are speeding drastically (well in excess of 30mph limit), not to mention the DHL tankers...

Although Church Road is noisy the noise doesn't travel and these streets are surprisingly peaceful

A nice haven amongst the local housing. A moat packed with ducks and wild life and benches to sit on, shut your eyes and you could be nearly anywhere

Badock's Wood - the natural sounds of birdsong and the streams make this a tranquil place away from the bustle of the city

Cycle in via Silverthorne Lane instead of down the Feeder Road. Much quieter!

When they finally refurbish one of those 2 derelict hotels and demolish the other one to build offices they're going to do away with the tiny pedestrian street up the middle. They're thinking of parking a bendy bus there! At the moment a lot of cyclists and pedestrians use it as it joins up a bit of the way between Temple Meads and the Brunel Mile. It really needs to stay pedestrian. It really doesn't need to become a bus park because someone forgot to build a bus station at Temple Meads.

Troopers Hill Woods. On the side of the hill, with tranquil paths, there are many different trees and wild flowers.

I agree too. It's a great place for young and old. There are nationally rare invertebrates, interesting plants (mouse-earedd hawkweed anyone?) and in the recent snow there were loads fo children playing. This is truly a special place.
And not to forget the new play area on Troopers Hill Field and the tranquility of the woods below.

medieval cities were obviously pre-car. cities that try to route traffic thru them always fail - either with the traffic flow or the amenity of the city. Bristol scores twice!! Reveal the water again and transform the centre - like the harbour. Requires major investment to build alternative road system outside of this area.

Most of the time this is a haven of peace in the centre of Bristol - just sit on the railings and let the harbourside happen around you.

This is a lovely place for families to walk and play. The area has some beautiful trees and wildlife in the nearby river at Snuff Mills. Some more benches to sit and look at the surroundings and enjoy the tranquillity would be superb.

This is a lovely place to walk with wildlife at Duchess Pond and views of the Dower House and the city of Bristol. It is a Green Belt area which is spolit by the tremedous traffic noise from the M32. Could fencing or trees be used to line the carriageways of the motorway?

Nice quiet walk along the Malago into town. I have seen moorhens on the stream. Good to get away from the traffic.

I like the quietness also the stupendous views across to Clifton Suspension Bridge and Ashton Court. Great for balloon watching!

This area of Bristol feels like walking through a traffic tunnel. I wonder if work could be done to green it up a little? I think psycologically places can seem more peaceful if the environment is more pleasant. I can't think of anything specific to do specifically about the traffice noise but if you could hear the wind in some leaves above the car noise, it might make it feel a bit better.

Stapleton village is surprisingly sheltered in the most part from the M32, but Broomhill Road creates loads of noise in an area which would otherwise be very peaceful. Slowin the traffic over the river for example, could quite possibly reduce ambient noise levels considerably.

I love walking down the hill and seeing the great view of Bristol over to the right and also not having to walk right next to the road as there is a lovely wide path set back from the road.

Windmill Hill city farm. Somewhere to escape noise and pollution, not to mention the spitting. One of the few places in central Bristol I've found where this country girl can hear bird-song.

I walked down here in the snow just before Christmas. The acoustics were changed and the traffic reduced so it was, for once, magically quiet - apart from the adrenalin fuelled cries of toboganners as they careered down the slope from the obelisk.

I used to really enjoy this route when I worked in town. The diversity of birdsong never failed to cheer my morning cycle ride.

This City Farm is such a special place. I'm sure people would visit more if the cafe was better publicised. I never know whether it is open as it has changed management so many times in the last decade.

It is good to see schools in quiet places where children can benefit from tranquillity and cleaner air. The green space of playing fields also helps to protect the community from over development.

These allotments provide a welcome diversity to pedestrians and cyclists heading for UWE. Even over the constant thrum of the motorway, the cackling of geese harmonises with the wild bird song and the occasional whistling cry of a buzzard hunting in the grounds of the Dower House. Please don't let a Park and Ride remove this respite!

This walk down Ham Lane to the River, via Snuff Mills and on to Eastville is one of our favourites. It can be quiet but if the wind is blowing in the wrong direction then the sound of the Motorway roars across the valley.

The main problem is vehicles with sirens (mainly ambulances) which go past every few minutes (and not just in front of the BRI). Obviously there will be ambulances near a hospital but their sirens are worse than they need to be. Do they have to be so loud? Do they have to have such a high pitch? In other cities they aren't as bad. Do they have to sound continuously, or could they beep once a second? I walk to work and it's a rare day when my ears aren't blasted a couple of times by sirens.
